Doodhpathri has a beautiful mountain landscape with a pine valley, lush-green meadows that looks like a green carpet, Shaliganga river, and snow. The place is called Doodh Pathri for its milky white water.
A day trip is sufficient to witness the magnificence of this place.
it has become a real hit among the local population
On 5th May 2022, we started from Srinagar to Doodhpathri around 10am. It was a 50km drive which took around 2.5 hr. Our taxi driver parked the vehicle in parking.
From there we had the option of doing sightseeing either by horse/pony (charge 1200rs each) or by walking. Pony people will tell you that you can't reach Doodhganga (Shaliganga) by walking whereas the truth is that you can go. Some people later said that you can drive a car thereby giving a small roll fee of 150rs.
We decided to walk as we had already done a pony ride in Sonmarg. Do not opt for a pony ride unless you have a child or an elderly person who cannot walk for 2-3kms.
We started towards Shaliganga by waking on a green grassy path and later switched to the road which goes straight there. We saw many sheep flocks, some cattle, and horses grazing in the meadows. Shaliganga (Doodhganga) river water here is very cold. If you stay in water for more than a minute there then you can call yourself superhuman.
We used washrooms which are situated near the entry gate of the river viewpoint. It was chargeable for 10rs each but was not clean.
After enjoying it for 30mins in the river we started to head back and on the way, two pony owners approached us to hire a pony for kids, initially, we said no but they said there is a snow point called U-Point. We hired 2 ponies for 6
500rs. Trek towards snow point was fun and slippery at a few patches but we managed to reach there. We enjoyed in snow and did snow sliding on our own. We spent around 30mins in the snow and It was great fun. We started back and reached parking at 5:30pm. Pony owners were very polite and helpful so we tipped them with an extra 100rs.
On our way back, we had delicious maake di roti with Sarsoon da Saag. We also tasted Kashmiri Nun Chai (also known as Pink tea or Namkeen Tea) from traditional Samawar.
but as it was our first time, we did not like the taste.
Overall it was an awesome trip and I would strongly recommend you add this place to your Kashmir itinerary.
Note: Prefer waterproof jackets as rain can come at any time in the hill area. Also, it will protect you from cold wind.
