High Five - Book Review
High Five (The magic of working together)
This is a great book to understand how a team can be a high five team and how you can be a good team player. Basically, an individual can achieve more if s/he is working in a good team.
This is a story of a person who got fired from his job in spite of his good individual performance. The reason was that he was not a team player. He started working with a class 5th ice hockey team and with the help of an old lady's wisdom, he discovered the following 4 points which changed his life.
These are well described by acronym P.U.C.K.
(1) Providing a clear sense of purpose with values and goals to the team.
(2) Unleashing and developing skills.
Continuously building individual skills that in turn bolstered collective skills.
(3) Creating team power
"None of us is as smart as all of us"
(4) Keeping the accent on the positive by repeated reward and recognition.
Deliberately sought instances where the behavior of people is aligned with efforts in those areas, this is derived from the fact that people repeat performance for which they get praised.
He also created below acronym to easily remember and describe above-mentioned wisdom
P.E.R.F.O.R.M
P - Purpose and Values
E - improvement
R - Relationship and communication
F - Flexibility
O - Optimal Performance
R - Recognition, and appreciation
M - Morale
